Olson Center Services
Special Programs

Special programs offered at the Olson Center include family planning, maternal care program, high-risk contraception clinic, Stork's nest, and WIC.

The Olson Center's Family Planning service is subsidized by Title X federal funds, to provide services to underserved populations in Nebraska at risk for unintended pregnancy.  Family Planning is all about making decisions - when to have children, how many children, how far apart in age.  The health professionals in Family Planning at the Olson Center can help you make the decisions that are right for you.  This includes gynecologists, certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, and specialty nurses.  Services are provided on a sliding fee scale, dependent on your income.

The Maternal Care Program at the Olson Center is a federally funded program to provide early prenatal care to women.  The Program was made possible as a result of 1963 Federal Legislation (Title V) federal funds to improve access to quality prenatal care, to provide quality healthcare to women at a reduced cost, to reduce the risk of birth defects, underweight babies, early labor and delivery and unhealthy behaviors, and to reduce the rate of teen pregnancy and repeat teen pregnancies.  Any pregnant female may qualify, however the program focuses on low-income women and teens.  Services include:  community based prenatal care including physical assessment, laboratory tests, medications, consultation, special diagnostic procedures, specialty clinic for high-risk obstetrics; education, nutrition, counseling and social work; a monthly teen educational program; co-sponsor of the Stork’s Nest incentive program, rewarding healthy behaviors;  presumptive Medicaid enrollment.

The Complex Contraception Clinic at the Olson Center offers many services to patients.  Contraception counseling and services for high-risk and medically complicated patients, including those with a history of:  hypertension, cancer, depression, diabetes, epilepsy, gastric bypass, autoimmune syndromes, migraines, stroke, thromboembolism, and organ transplant are all offered.  Also, IUD insertions and removal, Implanon implant insertion and removal, sterilization and emergency contraception.

The Stork's Nest is a special incentive service to patients who are part of the Maternal Care Program.  Based on a "point" system, the more a patient involves herself with prenatal care, social work, healthy behaviors, childbirth/family education, safety, birth postpartum, pediatric health care, and future financial well-being, the more points she receives.  The more points, the more rewards.  Rewards can include diapers, clothes, formula, breast-pumps, gift certificates, toys, etc.  To find out if you qualify for this free rewards program, contact the Maternal Care Program at the Olson Center at 559-4500.

The WIC program provides nutritious foods, nutrition counseling, and referrals to health and other social services to participants at no charge. WIC is effective in improving the health of pregnant women, new mothers, and their infants.  The target population is low-income, nutritionally at risk:
  • Pregnant women (through pregnancy and 6 weeks after birth or after pregnancy ends).
  • Breastfeeding women (up to infant’s 1st birthday)
  • Nonbreastfeeding postpartum women (up to 6 months after the birth of an infant or after pregnancy ends).
  • Infants (up to 1st birthday).
  • Children up to their 5th birthday.

To see if you qualify, please call Jaime at the Olson Center, 559-4500.
